Rua, High Ritualist of Armengar

Human (Armengarian)

Died 1105 AF at the Gathering of Nations on Tamerus

The sun had set long ago but she was still easy to see before the orange glow of the dying embers. She was quite alone now on the cliffside, the others leaving her to her solitude. A loose tendril of smoke made a frantic bid for the sky only to be quickly caught and torn apart by the winds coming in over the water. Those same winds whipped back her usually vibrant red locks of hair. Tonight they looked only ashen in the diminished light. Only her cloak and skirts moved as the last remaining ashes stirred from the pyre. Lugh was standing right behind her now and it was as if the very world had stopped for her. He knew he was a brave man but there was a firm doubt in his mind that even he would have the courage to break into the silence that surrounded her - or that it would do any good. He gathered his wits about him and at the same time wrapped the blanket he had been carrying around her shoulders.
"I'm sorry, Rua. Deeply."
For a long moment nothing happened. He was considering going back inside the walls and leaving her be when she turned around.
"That's all of them now, Lugh. Now there's just me."
There was a whirlwind in her eyes. Loss. Strength. Beauty. And Magic.
"You're not alone. You have my word."
She searched his face with an intense scrutiny, then when satisfied, she nodded.
"You've seen sixteen summers now and not a child to speak of. You were frowned upon for your choices yet you waited for me anyway."
He brushed his hand softly along her cheek. It was still damp.
"And my word to you will remain good, my sweet Rua."
Somewhere from the loneliness that had encased her only moments ago, she found a smile. She took his hand casting one last look at the scorched ground where her mother's pyre had stood.
"I am no longer a child. It is time."

Rua is the daughter of a once esteem warrior named Diarmuid, and Eibhlín, a teacher from the training school. The Farseekers arrived when she was ten years old. They fascinated her but it was fascination from a distance at her father's behest. By that time he was turning bitter after the death of his two sons in the Calebii attack the previous year. He didn't trust these newcomers, even when all around welcomed with open arms. He advised against following their directives when the next attack came. The jealousy grew as their deeds in the battle were glorified and his status began to crumble. Even so, no one expected what would happen.

A howl erupted one night followed by fast magics. Diarmuid had been caught trying to murder the Farseekers while they slept! Mactíre was restraining him when the Lawkeeper found them. He was sent to training camp. Although not amongst the group to see this traitor die, Rua did see what was left of the body. She did not cry.

In payment for the damage inflicted by Diarmuid, Eibhlín sent the eleven year old Rua into the service of Mactíre and the other Farseekers where, determined not to be seen by everyone as just her father's daughter, she cooked and cleaned with a loyalty and dedication such chores had never before seen. She continued her training as a fighter and watched Mactíre training Caoimhe in the magical arts a full year before daring to ask if she could be taught too.

For as long as she can remember, Lugh has always been the love of her life. He was a full three years older than her and despite being over fifteen, he continued to wait for her to mature. It was when her mother died in Rua's thirteenth year that she and Lugh started their family. It was no time at all before she birthed their twins - Rúairí and Bláithín. She was fifteen giving birth to Amáraiga and a year later Carraig was born to them. No more children were to come after an attack when she was eighteen left her with only the healing hands of Midir to save her. He succeeded in saving her life but not that of the child she had not yet told anyone she was carrying. She of course continues training as both a fighter and a spellcaster. Lugh too is a solid warrior with whom which she is proud to serve.

She is twenty now and fiercely loyal to her family and to Armengar. She is a strong believer in duty and the law and has been known to go to great lengths to prove that her father's crimes are not and never will be hers.

At Armengar's first Gathering she witnessed a number of rituals and returned home with a thirst to learn more about this new magic. Over the years she became the Lions High Ritualist, created a Ritual Circle and eventually died in the circle she created, pulling a backlash of energy into herself to protect the others in the circle.
