Fuildubh MacDíoltas

Human (Armengarian)

His father died three months before he was born and his mother died in childbirth with him. Born parentless he and his older brother, Vortigern, went to live with their mothers surviving relatives. They hated Fuildubh from the start. They blamed him for the death of his mother and persecuted him. They named him Fuildubh meaning 'black blood' as a mark of shame. So he grew knowing in his heart that his pattern was somehow corrupted and wishing desperately that he could purify it. However he was doubly cursed. At all times could he hear the sighing and faint whispers of the dead. His own mother's voice would taunt him with hateful words. His brother was the only person who cared for him or looked after him. When he was five and Vortigern nine, his brother took Fuildubh to live on their own. They entered the training camps and Fuildubh had a fairly normal childhood from that point on. He was still haunted though by the belief that his pattern was corrupt. At the age of thirteen his arranged marriage went through and twelve months later his wife bore a daughter but died in childbirth. Fuildubh loved the girl from the moment he saw he. Naming her Aisling, 'the vision', he began to spend all of his free time playing with her in the abandoned areas of Armengar where the dead are quietest. When he discovered the talent for priest magic inside of himself he noticed it too in his daughter. By the age of two he had discovered that she too could hear the movements of those who had passed away. One day during his daughters third year Fuildubh was serving on the walls. From nowhere his daughter appeared and began to babble about a terrible Calebii assault. Fuildubh called for someone to take his daughter back to his brother's family, where she normally stayed as he protected the city, but at that very moment the alarm went up and a huge Calebii offensive began. Before he knew what was happening a Calebii warrior was bearing down on his daughter. In that instant he drew together all the power that he possessed and calling on the names of every dead Armengarian he wove a great spell. As he spoke his words of power he could hear with perfect clarity the war cries of those who had fallen before him. In that very moment their bloody screams absolved him of his first crime. They did not care about what he had done only what he would do and his defence of the people of Armengar. The power of the ancestors rose like a great wave and swept the Calebii from the castle walls, throwing them to their dooms. He recently has discovered an ancient text detailing an old protector of Armengar, Delalaria. He believes that she, like Heramacles, shall be able to lend the people of Armengar her strength. Since then he has been given the title of High Priest of Delalaria, second among the incantors of Armengar only to the High Priestess of Heramacles. He has also begun to test the children of Armengar for the priest talent and, along with the High Priestess, has started a separate training school akin to that of the Healers.

Fuildubh used be a very sombre individual but since the birth of his daughter his mood has lightened considerably. He talks often of the greatness of the ancestors who whisper their tales to him and has begun to try to remember the old songs of Armengar. When not protecting the walls he is most often found talking in a hushed voice with his daughter in the abandoned areas of Armengar, or playing with his brothers children.
