Fraoch was born 24 years ago to Grainne and Felidimid; he was the second son of this couple and their last as Grainne died in childbirth. Feilidimid blamed Fraoch for the death of his one true love but his sense of duty forced him to care for the boy as he did his brother. Feilidimid threw himself into the battles with the Calebii and eventually lost his mind completely. Three years later he charged into a battle with no thought for his own safety or for the sons he left in the castle above. He never returned from that battle.
Fraoch and his brother Cathan, who is a year older than Fraoch, had no one to turn to. It was decided that since no one family would take them and despite some opposition they would both begin in training camp. The two were enrolled and they both became the victims of the older children. Throughout their training this would continue. The two boys developed differently in that camp. Fraoch fought to be the best at everything, he didn't always succeed, but his efforts were acknowledged by his those training him. Cathan on the other hand became introspective, quiet and suspicious. People said that his father had become like that after his mother died but they waited to see what would become of him. But despite all their differences the two were inseparable.
In the year that Cathan graduated from training camp Fraoch was fourteen and his wife Madhbh had a child on the way. Fraoch was proud of his brother and as he sat enjoying the sun in one of the very few breaks that they got in training he told his comrades the same. Finegas the then commander of the army approached and called Fraoch aside. All the others heard was Fraoch ask, "did he die well?" They heard later that Cathan had been patrolling the outer wall when he had been shot by a Calebii assassin. And that his corpse that had fallen off the wall had been taken by the Calebii.
The stealing of an Armengarian corpse by the Calebii caused uproar in the city. People were baying for all out war on them. Fraoch asked for and was granted release from training camp early to join this battle for revenge. The army marched out of the walls and towards the Calebii. There at the head of the Calebii army was Feilidimid with Cathan by his side. Fraoch became enraged and led the first charge against them, not because anyone ordered him to just because his rage made him move faster than anyone else. The battle was long and brutal. Fraoch himself was like a harvester, taking the lives of Calabii who stood between him and his 'beloved' family. As the battle wore on Fraoch got closer and closer to his father and brother. And eventually the three met in battle. Fraoch had always been a better swordsman than his brother, and his brother knew it, and stayed almost hidden behind his father.
Father and son joined in battle, Feilidimid accused Fraoch of murdering his own mother and destroying his life this served to enrage Fraoch even more. The battle between the two was so intense that others around stopped their own fights to watch this epic duel. Father and son locked in combat with the older brother occasionally taking a cowardly swipe at Fraoch. Then it happened. Cathan took a stab at Fraochs back and just as the blade penetrated through his shoulder, Fraoch turned and ran him through then spun and decapitated his father before he could do the same to him. Everywhere around the battlefield a cheer went up from the Armengarians as the Calebii fled, their leader dead. Fraoch turned to look at his brother. Cathan lay on the ground gasping for breath. Fraoch could do no more than look at him and as he did so tears began to roll down his face. His brother opened his eyes and Fraoch could see the mania that was hidden behind them. "Weep not for me baby brother, you killed my mother so I have seen to it that your child knows the same pain, a little something in the water she has been drinking will harm the child none but will kill Madhbh as soon as she gives birth. As your babe cries its first it will be in mourning for a dead mother". Fraoch stood horrified for a split second at the thought and before he left for the castle at a sprint he took the head of his father and his brother. As he sprinted across the courtyard of Armengar towards his home he heard the sounds of Madhbh in labour. As he reached his front door he heard the sound of a baby's cry and he knew it was too late. He walked in still carrying the heads of his father and brother and looked at the child now wrapped in swaddling clothes and the mother who died to give her to him.
After the funeral of Madhbh Fraoch buried himself in his work as a soldier. After his performance in the first battle of his life he had been made commander of a Talon. He had little time for his daughter who he named Grainne after his own mother but anytime he wasn't on the walls he was with her showing her the love he never received from his own family. The heads of his father and brother can still be seen on the outer walls as a warning to anyone else who would choose to betray Armengar. A year later the strangers arrived. But that's a different story.
Now Twenty Four, Fraoch holds the position of commander of the army and is well respected. People sometimes say that he's the coldest man in the face of battle but those who know him know that he has one of the warmest hearts but that all the love in it is for his home Armengar, his daughter Grainne and his lost love Madhbh.
