Diedrac Talthor, Commander of the Foreign Legion

Human (Armengarian)

Died 1106 AF at the Heartland Games

I am a 'Warrior'. A very simple term, which I used often, but very rarely understood. I saw the word warrior to mean 'fighter' or 'combatant'. It is not so simple. A warrior is much more than this. A warrior fights for a cause. A warrior will fight for a cause so passionately that they would not hesitate to give their life for it, should it be called upon. A warrior's cause outranks every single fibre in their being and it will remain so until they no longer draw breath. And that last breath will taste the sweetest of all, for that warrior will die knowing he died for his cause. I took me a long time to realise this.

I am a 'Warrior' ... I live for Armengar, I will die for Armengar. That is my cause.

Born in 1083 to Laogh, a scout of Amnor, and Maebh, Diedrac was truly a son of Armengar. Unusually eager to join the fight, some of the happiest years of his life were spent in the training camps. His love for combat was so zealous, that he was frequently reprimanded by the training masters for jumping into any fight he saw. As such, was put in the class that would most suit his skills; a heavy front-line fighter. Embracing his new role, he sought for a way to fight that matched his mindset and abilities. He found it quickly; two arms, two weapons, twice the body count. Though a fighter by choice, Diedrac has often been known to use several tricks in order to move the enemy to where he wants them. He keeps them very secret.

In concordance with his role in battle, Diedrac wanted to know more about battle itself. More about effective battle rather than just wars of attrition. He began to study tactics and strategy, the very skeleton of effective combat, and inducted it into his way of life. In 1104, he was made Gan of Armengar Legion, a role which he takes as seriously as the air he breathes, and he was grateful to be able to more actively protect Armengar.

As many of his friends would know, Diedrac dislikes Incantors as a rule, unless they are particularly well known to him, one being his wife Anocht. Only a few have any knowledge why he feels this way, but everyone else can only speculate. It could be because he views them as â'odd', or their power comes from an unusual source, or even because he feels ill at ease when they're too close to him. In any case, many Incantors have learned to avoid being to close to him, and Diedrac likes it that way.

In every aspect of life, Diedrac strives to do right by Armengar and its people. And now, with the walls gone, he approaches his cause with fervour ten times over.

After the Walls had fallen, Diedrac began to become more reclusive towards those outside Armengar. Though he took his war against Armengar's foes incredibly seriously, it damaged every other aspect of his life. Several members of the Tribe who he once considered close friends, found him to be aloof and aggressive. He would become reclusive, only leaving his quarters to train and fulfil his duties. His wife Anocht felt the brunt of his situation, not seeing him for days on end, and when he did, it was brief words and cold stares. This continued for many months...

Then the fated parliament came, and an unprecedented amount of Armengarians and Lions died at the hands of Benedict and his minions. Diedrac never forgave himself for not being present, feeling if he had been there he could have changed the outcome. He had â'failed' his Protector, Diedrac despised what he had become; in his eyes, an unfeeling barbarian.

At the Moot 1105, he took on a more meaningful approach to the protection of his people; by becoming a New Wall of Armengar. While it involved a ritual, something Diedrac had never seen or been involved in before, he was ready to take the risk for his people. Afterwards, despite some odd feelings of nausea, he felt stronger and better to cope with the never-ending fight for Armengar and it's allies...
