Went missing at the Heartland Games 1105 AF - presumed dead.
Captain of the HMS Amethyst
It was nearing noon as the wanderer crested the hill. Down below in the
distance the man could see a small village, practicaly identical to the
others he had passed along the way. "Great" he thought "I should be there
in another half hour or so.I hope to Jaysus this place has a tavern or
I may very well go bloody mad" It had been a week now since Amos had left
his berth on the merchant ship "The Ansbacher". He had woken up one morning
and decided that he'd had enough of sailing. He wanted to see more of the
world, not just what he saw from the deck of a ship.He had spent the last
15 years of his life sailing from one port to another. He had become a
sailor more out of necessity than anything else, it was that or end up
in prison or at the end of a noose. In those days there weren't many job
opportunitys afforded to orphans so Amos had grabbed the first one that
had come his way.So at the ripe old age of 15 Amos signed on as a ships
cabin boy and spent the next 15 years sailing on one ship or another. And
so Amos made up his mind and jumped ship with what little clothes, possesions,
and money he had to pursue some other career. Though what exactly he didn't
know I mean the only things Amos felt he was any good at were sailing,
drinking, and brawling.Maybe he could become a mercenary he knew sailors
who said they knew sailors who had become mercenaries, but then he didn't
know the first thing about being a mercenary or how to even join a mercenary
company. And now here he was a week later with little or no money left
and still no closer to gainful employment. "Bugger maybe it wasn't such
a good idea to jump ship" Amos muttered to himself as he entered the village.
The first thing that he noticed when he entered was that the village did
indeed have a tavern. As he quickly made his way towards the tavern he
could just make out what sounded like voices raised in argument. Just
as he reached the door of the tavern a man came crashing through the window
to land in an unconcious heap at Amos's feet. "Great" he said shaking
his head "Just great I haven't even had the chance to have a drink and
already there's a brawl" With that he entered the taproom of the tavern.
When he got inside he saw two lads, warriors by the look of them, trying
to fend off seven rather seedy looking individuals. "Your're gonna pay
for that" said what appeared to be the leader of the group" no one does
that to one of my men and expects to get away with it" One of the warriors,
he was a little over six foot tall, stocky build with shoulder lenght brown
hair and a neatly trimmed beard, just snorted contemptously at them, while
the other one, who was about six foot tall, lean build with short blonde
hair, scowled menacingly at them. With a signal from their leader the
men started to circle the two warriors. On seeing this Amos, who had gone
unnoticed throughout the exchange, picked up a chair and smashed it across
the back of the head of the man nearest to him, dropping him like a sack
of spuds. Then stepping up to the next man, who had turned to see what
was happening, hit him with a thundering left, catapulting him over a
nearby table. The leader of the gang on hearing this turned, drew a dirk
from his clothes and lunged at Amos. Amos dropped to the ground barely
avoiding the dirk and rolled past the leader. He then leapt to his feet
and turned to face the gang leader with one of the chair legs from the
chair he had used earlier gripped in his hand. While this was going on
the two warriors dispatched the four remaining gang members with consumit
ease. The leader on seeing that he was suddenly out numbered tried to make
a break for the door.On seeing this Amos hurled the chairleg at the fleeing
bandit striking him in the back of the knees causing him to stumble giving
the dark haired warrior the chance he needed. He grabbed the mans headed
and rammed it into the brick wall crushing it like an overripe melon.
"Nobody and I mean nobody threatens me like that" he muttered. He then
turned and looked at Amos. He stuck out his hand which Amos accepted,
they gripped each others wrists, the Warriors Handshake. "Listen thanks
for the assist back there much appreciated" he said "The names Chareos
and the scowling one over there is Rhyan. So whats yours?" "It's Amos"
Amos answered. "Well Amos can I get you a drink?"Chareos asked. "Oh yes"
Amos replied enthusiasticly "Most definitely". So as they sat there with
their drinks amid the ruins of the taproom Chareos asked Amos where he
was headed. "Oh nowhere in particular"Amos answered "Just seeing where
the road will take me" "Well why don't you tag along with us for a while"
said Chareos "We're going to meet up with some friends of ours, your're
more than welcome to join us". "Sure why not" Amos replied " It's not
as if I have anything better to do, anyway what's the worst that could
happen".
