Armengar is the name of the Citadel that sits on the largest plateau on the island of Amnor. Although none know the origins of the citadel itself, it has been occupied for centuries by a people who refer to themselves only as Armengarians. Their origin too is shrouded in mystery. Many theories have been put forward, including that they were an anti slavery group exiled by the Calebii, but there is no definite proof for any theory.
For as long as any of Armengar can remember, they have been at war. Every year, the Calebii would march on the citadel in force, and the Armengarians would be forced to defend themselves. Although an exact timeframe for how long this has been happening is not available, it is thought that this has happened for centuries. Over this time, much of Armengar's finer points of culture were lost, including the ability to read and write. While the position of Lawkeeper is founded to keep oral record Armengar's traditions, the short lifespans of the people mean that much of what should have been remembered was not. It didn't seem strange to the people so that their crops weren't burned when the Calebii marched, and that other siege tactics weren't employed.
It was only with the chance arrival of a group known as the Farseekeers through a malfunctioning transport circle that Armengar started to think of the outside world again. Cut off for centuries, they were suddenly made aware again that there was a broader world outside their borders. The Farseekers brought other knowledge with them aswell - knowledge of new tactics, magic and literacy.
In recent years, many things have occurred which rocked the Armengarian worldview severely. It was discovered that the Calebii did not truly war upon them, but were using the Armengarians as a whetstone against which to hone their inexperienced troops. Not long after this revelation, a series of events led to the withdrawl of the Caleb forces and the reintroduction of Armengar to the outside world. From centuries of warfare, Armengar has suddenly found itself thrust into a world where not everything is so simple.
